If you aren’t the artsy-crafty type of person that would normally undergo this sort of project, the thought of making a candle may seem foreign, or even intimidating. Essentially, you need 4 things: Wax, something to melt the wax in, something to pour the wax into, and a pre-made wick for the candle. If you don’t want your candle shaped like the inside of a cup, you can buy a candle mold for a very low price.

Of course, unless you have a large brick of wax lying around then you will need to purchase some of that. You can choose to buy colorless wax and add your own dye later, or buy pre-dyed wax. This and how much wax to buy will all depend on how many candles you want to make. If you want to make a gift for a friend, a small amount of pre-dyed wax will suffice.

On the other hand, if you want to give party favors to a large group of friends, you probably won’t want every candle the same color. Therefore, clear wax with various dyes will be a better option. Just consider what exactly you want the candles for, and you’ll have no trouble deciding what supplies you want.

Often franchise attorneys will say something like; All Franchisor Salesmen violate the earnings claims laws using the old cocktail napkin trick. They are referring to a salesman taking a prospective franchisee out for a drink and when the franchisee asks; How much money will I make if I buy this franchise? The franchise salesman writes a very high number on the napkin, without verified proof of such an earnings claim and this is against the law.

Whether or not this happens in a giving franchise sale the franchisee’s attorney will purport that it did and that the Franchisor’s salesman violated law and gave unsubstantiated earnings claims. Yet, those of us in the franchising industry know that when a franchisee fails, well generally there is a reason, as we know from personal experience that when franchisees fail to work hard in their businesses they do poorly. At which point they will make any claim possible to get out of their obligations in the franchise agreement, which will adversely effect a franchisor’s brand name. That includes lying in court documents, to regulators and their private attorneys.

Shame on the franchisee attorneys for painting a negative picture like this of the franchisors merely to win cases; why do they peddle such comments? Oh yah, for the retainer fee. A little self-serving isn’t it? One organization which protects franchisees or claims to is the AAFD for which I was a former board of director and I came away from that experience with the opinion that the organization is nothing more than a class action case incubator. Indeed, at a meeting once in New Orleans the attorneys were busy going to strip clubs on their off time? Real class act, let me tell you.

If anyone wishes to talk morality in franchising with me, BRING IT ON !!!! Let’s talk truth, all of it. Negative comments using the cocktail napkin from franchisee attorneys is exactly what perpetuates over regulation in the franchising industry and ruins franchising. Needless to say this has very bad economic and small business implications in our nation. Caesar is sure looking good, ever wonder why people still quote him and say that in the present period?

Fear nothing, seek truth, real truth, not the perception based limited skewed view bias of political correctness or modified fabricated truth so the franchisee attorneys can continue their professional parasite fee on my industry. Go read Ayn Rand. Think on it.

We will discuss Brand Marketing for a minute. In this discussion we would like to talk about brand line extension and how to do it correctly. First we are not sure if you have been looking in the grocery stores lately, but you might have been noticing some very interesting things amongst America’s top selling brands, this has been increasing for about the last 5-years. For instance look at GE Light bulbs sometime. They have not only the original light bulb that GE is known for they now have; Soft Pink, Crystal Clear, Original, Standard, Miser (The energy saving light bulb), and of course Party Light Bulbs in colors of yellow, red, green, blue, and orange.

If you do not find this interesting perhaps you might find the line extension of Kingsford Charcoal interesting. 3-types now. What about Raid, the bug killer, they have it now for ants, slugs, flies and ants/roaches, Roaches only. Raid for the garage, for the bathroom, for the kitchen and for the garden. 7 different types. They own the entire space for bug killer on many a store shelf. And what about our famous Lego Brand? They already have all the Star Wars characters and hardware of spacecrafts, and structures.

Yes we are very aware of Lego Brands. Lego is very aggressive promoting their brand identity and expanding their customer base, they have something for everyone, We are on the leading edge of these trends and have read all the same books and sometimes it amazes me how many large corporations in America make such unfortunate mistakes with their brands. Lets look a Hot Wheels line extension. Garbage trucks, Fed Ex Vans, Over the Road 18 Wheelers, Skateboarders, SUVs etc. And Barbie, judging by their books, cars, houses and clothes-lines. Interesting that the founder died and they simply did what Wendy’s Hamburger did, use the PR to sell even more and extend the brand name even further, with books and video-tapes and newest lines. Look at Wendy’s launching a new hamburger early ahead of schedule. Who else is going for it on the grocery shelves of America’s largest chains? Windex with now 7 colors; Blue Original, Clear Vinegar, Purple Mountain Anti-Bacterial green, Aqua, no drip no streak. Lysol same thing. And 409 cleaner? Original green. Misty Breeze, Orange Power. We have brands everywhere and they sell too.

Now then if you look at the Fast Food Restaurant Corporations and their Multi-Brand Franchises in the QSR Sector, we see the leader McDonalds has diversified quite a bit. Recently we did a Multi-Brand Franchising Report Observation and we were quite interested in what we found. Well not everyone is aware that McDonalds also owns several other bands such as Boston Markets; 650 stores in 23 states, Chipotle Mexican Grill; 230 stores in 10 states, Donato’s Pizza 200 stores in 10 states, Pret a Manager 140 stores in 4 countries, Fazoli’s 400 units in 32 states and two countries. Of this the company derives 2 Billion in annual sales, this is not even counting McDonalds. Many people are unaware of this because McDonald’s has not connected the dots.

However other franchise companies, which franchise and have multiple brands have. The question shall always be do they co-market to the same customers or serve separate niches. Do they buy out their competition yet sell and take away an cannibalize their own same store sales? It depends, McDonalds seems to be targeting different customers although if you consider in the US people eat major meals 2-3 times per day and there are 7 days a week, we are talking about 14-21 opportunities to feed them, now obviously other than single males, most of our population will eat the majority of meals at home. However how many of those meals will be eaten out side the home and of those visits to QSRs how many can McDonalds pick up. Apparently after considering the additional 2 billion a year in sales, quite a few and remember McDonalds is in 141 countries thus far so perhaps the cannibalization discussed in the franchising industry is a US thing for McDonalds and is not affecting it’s other brands here yet or all of it’s overseas markets for it’s stead fast Mickey Ds Brand.

Think about it Pizza, Chicken, Tacos, Italian and Pretzels? Oh yah that Hamburger thing will never work? Sure, that is what they told Ray Kroc in the beginning, guess they were wrong. And today we see some interesting new factors to be considered namely; The New American diets and how these different food types are effected by the new perception of Atkins, South Beach Diet, etc.

Some stores allow for multiple brands inside the same establishment, this is prevalent in Fast Food, C-Stores and Auto-Service Businesses. We had recently did a small study on the Point of destination Theories or One Stop Shop Scenarios in Car Washes, C-Stores, Quick Lubes, QSRs or Other Auto Businesses and how they attempt to use the multiple brands to draw in customers. If you study Micro Economics of Multi-Revenue Streams Concepts and Co-Brands you will see this trend. In 1997 at the annual International Franchise Association Trade Show we saw that many break away forums focusing on this new rage at the time of Franchise Co-branding and as the moderators introduced the franchisors, Franchise Marketing Executives and Attorneys involved in some of these major projects of mini-franchises in side of C-Stores and Donut, Cookie, Pizza concessions in fast food locations, mom and pop shops, food courts, etc. they all admitted that about 50% of these deals failed when the franchises were owned by separate entities. However it was our observations that things like Starbucks, hair cut places, Mail Stops inside grocery stores were very successful and kiosks with low costs depending on the product did turn out to be profitable.

Let me take a quote from Plato, because it maybe more than relevant to this situation and discussion. This quote is taken out of context although there were none of these types of businesses during that time period. However the theory has not changed and may not change with regards to business operators who leave core components of their business model to create a one-stop shop scenario in order to take advantage of the similar theory of a regional shopping mall or Wal-Mart store. Small privately owned businesses should concentrate on what they are good at first and think twice about co-brands concepts they are unfamiliar with, are hard to learn or not their specialty. Many businesses fail and recently I watched and reviewed such a business that is not long for this world which I will be glad to describe without giving names and allow you to see our point of this discussion. Here is the famous quote by Plato in the Republic, which rings through to the topic some 2300 years later. Could have been written yesterday. You may wish to copy it down and teach it to your off spring.

“the result, then, is that more plentiful and better quality goods are more easily produced if each person does one thing for which he is naturally suited, does it at the right time, and is released from having to do any of the others.”

There are many other later themes encompassing parts or all of this idea of specialization. Forget the equal pay for equal work communism or the socialist connotations that this might enter and think of the business aspects of free markets and core business models and current comments from fortune 500 CEOs to shareholders and of course the aspects of small businesses on relevancy. In Parenting too, for instance the quote you may have heard is “If you try to do everything, you will do nothing well?” Unfortunately this is used by many a lazy person to relieve himself of responsibilities of doing what is right or responsibilities he has already committed to or to get him out of responsibilities he is employed to do. In other words for excuses, however when used by a man of commitment to do what he says he was going to do, does it and then determines it to be something he should not be engaging his time in, in that case it is seen as a prudent insight.

I cannot tell you how many companies make obvious mistakes with their brand name, based on advise from experts, advertising agencies and academia, which in my opinion is always looking back, and has not a clue how to change the market direction midstream and take advantage of brand name value in opportunities right before their eyes, Service Master should be commended as they have done well, but they could do so much more really. I want to thank those students for their questions, which enabled me to formalize my worldly observations and enable me to define my theories on brand name.

A step by step guide to measuring your feet for correct size, support and comfort.
It is essential to get the correct size for proper fit before you purchase your “brand new shoes“. Think of your shoes as a new best friend and, walking in them daily, they will become your close friend. With proper fit they can become your favorite pair of shoes!
Your new shoes will take you all around town, or just feeling good when you kick back in your hammock.
Let’s begin…so that we can get those new shoes on you.

For at home measurements:

Step 1. First gather your supplies. Some tape, a piece of paper larger than your foot, a pencil, and a ruler or measuring tape. Taping the piece of paper, at the corners, to a flat, hard surface on floor. Now you’re ready to measure.

Step 2. Trace the outline of your foot. Some people have feet that do swell especially in the evening after standing on them for long periods of time. Because of this we recommend measuring your foot in the evening to allow for comfort and ample room. Trace your feet without shoes, just with socks like you may be wearing with the shoes you will be buying. Place foot firmly on the floor with your leg slightly forward and your shin just in front of your ankle. Using your pencil, trace the outline of your foot on the paper. Hold your pencil straight up and down as you do this. Make sure the pencil is firmly against your foot as you trace around it. It can be helpful to have someone else do the tracing, but you can do this yourself.

Step 3. Marking the length and width of your foot. Using your pencil, draw a straight line from top to bottom of the outline of your foot. That is your length. Then from side to side at the widest part of the outline, draw another straight line for your width.

Step 4. Measuring the length of your foot. Using your measuring tape or ruler, measure from the bottom to the top of your outline. For inches use the closest 16th inch mark when measuring. Don’t round up or down as this will affect the fit of new shoes. Write your length measurement at the top of the outline.

Step 5. Measuring the width of your foot. Some people will need a narrow shoe while others need wide shoe. Measure the width of your foot with your tape measure or ruler from left side to the right of the widest part of the outline. Find the mark that is to the closest 16th inch here as well. Write this number to the side of your foot outline.

Step 6. Finding your final shoe size. Repeat these steps for the other foot and go with the larger of the two. After your numbers are written down, you will want to subtract 2 tenths of an inch from each of the numbers to allow for the slight space between your actual foot and the line made when tracing your foot with the pencil. These final numbers are your actual foot measurements and can be converted to your appropriate size and width.

You are now on your way to getting a correct fitting, comfortable, quality pair of shoes!

You’ve heard of flying carpets of course but have you ever heard of a talking rug? I’ve been in the rug business for a number of years and my statement is, was and always will be, that a really good rug talks.
This is a hand-made woven piece of art sometimes taking hundreds of hours to make that is often endowed with the creative insight of the weavers and the skill of the dyers.

I made the above statement once to an Interior Designer and she asked me, “What was the rug saying?” We laughed together but I do believe she was being slightly facetious.
This was fine as I have been known to get pretty excited about this subject in general. I then proceeded to answer her question promptly and with such certainty she did in fact listen attentively.
Here were a few of my answers.

I’ve always referred to a “good rug” as a rug that is so breathtaking that 9 out of 10 people that see it must comment on it, admire it, notice it or show some kind of desire to own it!
This is not a rug you see every day, but find here and there and behold!
It speaks out.

“There is happiness here, please come and see me”

“I will make you feel better if you just stay with me for a while.”

“Your heart is clear and so is mine.”

“Beauty is for everyone, just look this way.”

“When you look at me you will see the thoughts of your dreams”

“The colors of the Earth are beautiful and I am here to remind you of that.”

“We are calm together and you can relax now”

I have seen thousands and thousands of rugs from countries all over the world, but I am speaking here in terms of hand-woven works of art.

Sigmund Freud had a beautiful Persian Qashqai (a tribal rug woven in Southern Iran) covering the couch in his office. He also had pillows made from rugs and other textiles which created a mood of safety and comfort.

Nowadays we see more and more vendors are selling software that enables consumer to watch satellite TV program on their PC. The set up of the satellite-to-pc system is unbelievable cheap and I believe it attracts lots of consumer trying it. While it might suits someone’s appetite, satellite-to-pc system is definitely not for me at the moment.

The reason behind? Here’s why.

<h2>Reliality of free satellite TV program on PC</h2>

The consistency of satellite-to-PC program highly depends on the quality of my Internet services. While my Internet service provider (ISP) do regularly fail to give me high speed Internet and sometimes even server down, it in turn bring down my other entertainment – TVs in case I am using satellite-to-pc program. 

Then how PC system? Virus attacks, bugs in operating systems, Trojan files – all these might cause you hours to format and fix. When these problems come in, it goes directly to my so call PC satellite TV as well where I might need to reinstall the satellite-to-PC software and reset all my program channels.

<h2>Complicated installation</h2>

I think satellite-to-PC program is a cool product but personally I am worry the complicating set up process. From a consumer point of view, transferring satellite TV program to PC requires set up in computer hardware and installation of software; it does not look simple to me. But, if we want a satellite-to-PC program, we need to do all this by ourselves – what if something went wrong during the set up process? What if I screw up? Is there someone that I can call to? The question remains unanswered in most of the vendor website I visited.

<h3>Comparing satellite-to-PC with normal satellite TV service</h3>

Okay, once again I have to stress that I am extremely impressed with the price of satellite-to-PC service when compare to my usual satellite TV service. With most of the case, setting up satellite-to-pc is even cheaper than half of my monthly subscription fees in Dish Network.

But cheap is one thing, entertainment is another. I certainly do not enjoy watching at my small computer screen for TV entertainments. I certainly do not enjoy all my family members sitting crowded in my room look at my 19” monitor… and I certainly do not enjoy transferring my house into cable house if I ever thought of transferring the TV image from my PC to my TV at living room.

<h4>Conclusion</h4>

Personally I would not choose free satellite TV on PC over my Dish Network. Yes, I do pay extra for the satellite TV program subscriptions, but I enjoy the entertainment, I got full customer service support from them, and I get free four room satellite TV system from them.

But hey! That is my personal point of view. It might not suit you though. Who knows you enjoy working at your table while watching PC TV? Who knows you prefer budget stuffs compare to top notch entertainment? It depends.
